Interesting, but it looks as good as pistons but how is made the sealing on the sides ?
It will be good to make a very small working model ??

The cylinder can be made from an aluminum extrude...

Convincing and original simplicity !
It could be good and convincing and not too expensive, to show a working very small toy model, with heat dissipation solved.

As good for compressing or decompressing air in a air motor, in many stages on the same rotation axis for a more isothermal pressure change to recover a maximum of energy. ??
