For the last radial piston engines, it seems to me that CKE-technologies have designed a similar motor for airplanes... (but perhaps not exactly the same...), see this french "technogical awakeness" page :

CKE is now become "Beaverauto" and it seems that the development of the CKE radial engine has seriously slowed down...

Last time I do not like something very cogged transmissions too.

My horizontal engine need angle transmission.
Its my project crossheads 90 deg angle transmission:


Ma by twin crossheads angle replace old "differential" ??

That's an idea, you've replaced the four bars oscillating system by crankshaft with crossed rods. Nice !
